The paper authored by Kunihito Ioka, a member of Group C02, received The 28th Outstanding Paper Award of the Physical Society of Japan.

The paper “Can an off-axis gamma-ray burst jet in GW170817 explain all the electromagnetic counterparts?”  is The 28th Outstanding Paper Award of the Physical Society of Japan winner. This paper shows that the off-axis model can naturally explain the gamma-ray emission several orders of magnitude fainter than expected seen in the binary neutron star merger event GW170817, and is a valuable achievement that links the binary neutron star merger and gamma-ray bursts. Congratulations, Dr. Ioka!
